• Artist of the month - Perfect

If you haven’t heard about the ‘Hand Cart Bwoy,’ you must be living in a cave on a remote, deserted island because Perfect is one of the most powerful, intriguing and refreshing voices on today’s Reggae/ Dancehall scene.
Born Greg Rose, he grew up in the cool hills of Bamboo in the parish of St. Ann. His father owned several jukeboxes, giving him full exposure to the rhythms of Jamaica. He counts Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Toots Hibbert as some of his early favorites.

Perfect,Reggae,Artist of Month,Jamaica,Chalice PalaceFrom as early as nine years old he was a primary school entertainer. This stardom exploded as he entered York Castle High and by the eighth grade he was a superstar, performing regularly at school concerts. After leaving high school, Perfect went to Kingston to get a first-hand understanding of the music business, spending time at studios like Penthouse, King Jammys and Arrows while he fine-tuned his art. Returning to St. Ann, he started appearing at dances and stage shows every chance he could, causing his popularity to soar until his name was on everyone’s lips.

Determined to break into mainstream recording, Perfect recorded a few self-produced songs in 2001. Building on that successful effort, he recorded Sweet and Black, an album with a blend of classical and refreshingly new, soul-reaching message. The airwaves were blazing with the smash hits ‘Hand Cart Bwoy,’ ‘Amerimaka’ and ‘No Badda Mi’ from his 2006 album release Giddimani on the Tad’s label in the U.S. and DHF Records in Europe. He has already been recognized with awards, placing third in IRIE FM’s Big Break competition in 2003. He has been making regular show appearances, and “locked up” Sumfest with a scintillating performance on Dancehall Night in 2004.

Early 2008 saw the release of Perfect’s second album, Born Dead With Life on Irievibrations Records. A concept album concerned with the history of slavery, the album has gotten extraordinary reviews and reveals a deeply personal side of the artist. Additionally, he has continued to release hit singles on all the hottest rhythms making the radio and dancehall rounds in Jamaica.

A collection of singles made up Perfect’s 2009 album, Karma. With lots of popular tunes on familiar riddims, Karma was the beginning of a shift towards the alt/pop world..

2010 is the year when Perfect’s name will be recognized outside of reggae circles with the multi-genre album “French Connection”, produced by Sherkhan for Tiger Records/Chalice Palace Music. Released in Europe through IrieVibrations once again, the album contains a hidden track that will bring the alt/pop world to Perfect’s door. Forget Everything will be released in late February by Zojak World Wide.

A Rastafarian, Perfect’s lyrics are deep and straightforward yet unforgettably melodious, leaving you to listen over and over. Simply put, he keeps his lyrics real and unapologetically uses music as his medium for education and self-awareness So, are you ready for the Hand Cart Bwoy? As the radio DJs say, “Here is the man who is perfectly Perfect.”

(February 9, 2010, Kingston, JA) Jamaican vocalist, Perfect, an artist best known for chanting down Babylon—and winning— is taking up a new challenge, this time funk rocker. “Forget Everything”, the lead single off his new album, French Connection (Tiger Records/Chalice Palace), mixes bohemian hipster with a healthy dose of the Red Hot Chili Peppers laid back rock feel. A seasoned
songwriter with a string of modern roots rocking Jamaican reggae hits already in the bag (“No Badda Mi”, “Lovebird”, “Handcart Boy”) that speak to the grittiness of Jamaican life, “Forget Everything” represents a new chapter for Perfect and Jamaican music as a whole. A straight ahead funk rock ballad, “Forget Everything” is made all the more listenable by Perfect’s raw bluesy vocals and Tiger Record’s funky riddim track.
